This blog uses the Genesis Framework for WordPress, it is a premium framework which costs around $50. It is pretty easy to get a lot of things up and running and i highly recommend it as a starting point if you are looking to enhance your blogging.
Bluehost hosts this blog, it’s a great company with great service and the support is top notch. The whole setup is pretty simple and the service is very affordable.
Questrade is one of the brokers i use to trade here in Canada. It supports trading and investing on registered accounts such TFSA and RRSP aswell as the usual margin accounts, it holds both USD and CAD currencies, supports options, forex and Gold trading. I mainly use their IQ Essential platform which is sufficient for basic trading and i also keep track of my portfolio through their iOS app which works fine.
ThinkorSwim is an awesome platform. There are 2 flavours, Thinkorswim Canada and the main US version. I use the US version for charting and risk analysis for options, i put my orders through Questrade for trading in my registered accounts, i put orders through ThinkorSwim for non-registered trades. The canadian version sadly doesn’t support trading of Canadian equities or Futures. As a canadian resident i am not allowed to trade futures on either platform either which is sad. That aside, if you want to trade stocks, options, learn options or just paper trade, this is a great place to start.
The Daily Trading Coach by Dr Brett Steenbarger is a fabulous book that gets to the root of psychology and trading. He goes over a huge amount of stuff and it is very digestible book to read. You will probably have a few epiphanies while going through it, it helped me immensely.
A Trader’s guide to self-discipline is a DVD of Dr Brett Steenbarger presenting a lecture on issues with discipline in trading. If you ever get those ‘why did i do that’ after making a trade, feel urges to trade when you know it is wrong, can’t stick to the plan and so on then you really should watch this, he goes over a few techniques which i found surprisingly effective. It helped my trading performance and you can apply it to pretty much anything, not just the stock market.
Stock Trader’s almanac 2014 is a fantastic resource for looking at seasonality, cycles and statistics of what usually happens in the market for example all the chat about ‘The January Effect’, the statistically most bullish day in each month and so on, it’s a great read and offers some fascinating insights.
