2017, quite the year in many ways. I’m looking forward to seeing how 2018 pans out now.
December’s dividend income is pretty much done although there maybe an adjustment of $100 or so next week on some stragglers coming through. This month, the income came in at $1918.90, a healthy bump up from $957.79 for December 2016. My total came in at $23469.92, almost doubling last year.
Much of this was down to adjusting strategies when various opportunities popped up, there were times where i had to cut the dividend income in the short-term and reallocate funds which i felt were worth the risk/reward.
This will happen again in 2018 but my aim is to try and get around $26000 for 2018. This final value may considerably but i am setting a stake in the ground and we’ll see how i do.
Impossible to predict how the market will go as usual, 2017 was such an outlier on so many levels but one of my core trading approaches is reversion to the mean, meaning that the market will always normalize at some point.
With that in mind and given the rocket fuel that is being added with the US global tax cuts, it looks like the market may well continue higher in the 1H 2018 and then finally revert..this may be in ’19-’20 – who can say but I’m carefully watching credit conditions, inflation, volatility and interest rate hikes…at some point the equity market will be too overpriced and that’s when you’ll need to don your tin hat and nappies for the ride down..
Nothing really else to add at the moment, focus is still on tech, financials and commodities. My expectations are the latter 2 will probably get some lift in 2018.
I could discuss cryptocurrencies but i’ll let the rest of the internet deal with that :). I did take a few trades in BTC and ETH, made my cash but the fees / trade execution and volatility make it tricky..i’ll stick with futures for now.
i’m of the belief in waiting and seeing for the investment opportunities ( re: not trading ) in this sector, the hot money will come and go but there will always be opportunity. I am thinking more along the lines of the companies that will benefit from the underlying tech – banks being one example.
happy new years and best of luck in 2018
