Some articles i’ve read this week…
BEYOND THE TAPE
I used to drink coffee, a lot of coffee, sometimes i’d go and buy upto 2 coffees a day, yup, the expensive stuff and that was $10 a day. I see people doing it all the time when i walk to work, same people, day after day. When i finally decided to pull my finger out and do something about my financial life, i worked out i had blown about 1500$ on coffee at starbucks and various other places over 12 months. If someone told you that you were spending $120 per month on something that just wasn’t necessary, you’d probably stop right? People hardly ever give pause on a $5 latte but they will nickel and dime and absolutely everything else. No wonder starbucks ( SBUX ) has a $55 billion market cap.
If you are ever thinking where could i save some cash, throw your budget into a spreadsheet, work it out over 12 months. i didn’t think much to it until i ran the figures and nearly fell out of my chair. I’m just glad i realized this about 2 to 3 years ago.
I can’t give coffee up, i’d be a wreck but all i did was buy a simple french press, buy beans in bulk, the cost is now under 150$ per year. Easy :). Now i have over $1000 a year extra i put into my investments for very little effort.
